Ask a L&D Nurse!
Hospital isn't doing tours? No problem! Come learn from a panel of 3 L&D nurses.

Time & Location
Mar 11, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Saint Paul and Zoom (Hybrid), 1278 Selby Ave, St Paul, MN 55104, USA
About the event
You've met your OB or midwife in prenatal visits, but did you know you'll rarely see them during your labor? Â The hospital staff person you'll spend the most time with is.... your L&D (labor & delivery) nurse! Â Your nurse will be in the room for about 30% of your labor, on average, whereas you might not see your OB or midwife until it's time to push.Â
Join us for a panel discussion to hear from three experienced Twin Cities L&D nurses! Â We'll discuss all the things they wish pregnant people knew before their labor, and leave plenty of time for your questions as well.
They'll give you the REAL, UNFILTERED scoop about what really goes on during hospital births. Â We'll answer all of your burning questions, such as:Â
- What supplies do you recommend birthing people bring with them to the hospital in labor?
- Does it hurt your feelings if a birther "firers" you during labor and asks for a new nurse?Â
- How do you help advocate for your patients while they're in labor?Â
- What's one thing you wish pregnant families knew before arriving at the hospital?Â
Meet the panel:Â
- PAIGE: Paige started her career on a medical unit at Southdale hospital in July, 2019 and has been on L&D at Southdale since June, 2020. Â She recently completed her OR circulator training for cesarean births. Â Paige likes to take time to educate patients on the birth process and what their hospital stay may look like. A lot of patients come in with little to no knowledge of birth and the education she can provide eases fear and anxiety for many families. Â Paige has a one year old daughter, Ila. Â She experienced just about all there is when she birthed her, so she understands firsthand what her patients are going through.Â
- CLARE: Clare has been a nurse for 8 years and has worked in a variety of roles in Women's Health. She started as a LPN working in clinics, fertility home care, hospital postpartum and as a birth assistant at out of hospital birth centers. She earned her RN in 2022 and currently works as a labor & delivery nurse at United Mother Baby Center. Â From Clare: "I would describe my style as a nurse as a combination of David Rose (from Schitt's Creek) & Mother Teresa. When I fact-checked this with a MD that I work with, he said "that is so accurate". Â So, that's who you're getting. We'll have a great time!"
- MEGHAN: Meghan has been a labor and delivery nurse for a little over 4 years at Regions Hospital and is currently finishing up midwifery school to become a certified nurse-midwife through Frontier Nursing University. Â For her Master's degree, she is completing her clinical hours at the Minnesota Birth Center and Methodist hospital. Â She also currently teaches as a nursing instructor at Bethel University and at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood for maternal/newborn/OB. Â Fun fact about her style as a nurse is: she is HUGELY passionate about informed consent, shared decision-making, evidence-based interventions, supported autonomy and trying to help you, your family and your little nugget have the best birthday party ever!
